Serve vs. Engage

Serve vs Engage

There's a major difference between serving and engaging. You can do everything right on your checklist. You can use a name, escort, anticipate needs, and still not make the customers feel like they were engaged. Engaged means that you're connecting with them on an emotional level. It means that you genuinely exude that you care about them, and that you appreciate them.

Delivering exceptional service requires an engaging heart, and such hearts are not motivated by coarse mandates on exactly what to do and say. Instead, of simply looking up, giving eye contact and smiling, please understand that your role is to make each customer feel like the most important person in the world.

If you take care of your customers, value their patronage, and provide them with memorable service, then they will return to give you more business. Simple enough.
